Coatings, 44 months later…
People ask us all the time if coatings really are worth it. I always give the same answer of, “If you really want to get the most bang for your buck. Really want to take your paint to the next level. Really want to make maintenance a breeze, then absolutely.” A customer of ours, who is a firm believer in the coatings, has it applied to all of his vehicles. The first vehicle he ever had done with us was a 2012 Nissan GTR Black Edition. He had it applied in November or December of 2011. The owner has done nothing more than keep his vehicle washed regularly. He contacted me and decided to bring it in, to have the old coating stripped off and reapplied. Since it had been so long, he had gotten his monies worth and wanted to get the car freshened up.
Here at Shine Auto Salon, we are firm believers in, “If we do right by our customers, they will do right by us.” We do not sale someone more than they need and on many occasions, talk customers down from what they want to spend with us, to what they need to. Other times, we tell them that they have to spend more to get the results they are after. It would be a waste of their money to spend less as it would not achieve the results they have built up in their minds.
Back to the question of coatings. Our customer dropped off his GTR. While washing it to prep for our Full Detail Package and application of CQuartz Finest, it was quickly evident that it was not needed. During the wash, it was 100% evident that the coating was still their. Dirt, dust and grime pre-washed off easily with a pressure washer. The water was still beading extremely hard. The paint was still very hydrophobic. Then after drying, the car looked like I had just detailed it last week. All signs of the coating.
Once dried off and inside the shop. I called the customer and informed him that in my opinion the work he wanted to pay for, was not required. It was still up to him if he wanted it done anyways, but it was my recommendation to save his money and bring it back at a future point. Car will be back at the end of winter to have the coating reapplied regardless. But owner was happy that the product was still there.
Here is a video that shows how much the water was beading and how hydrophobic is still was.
Once the vehicle was inside, we just preformed our Wash & Wax Package on the paint to add a little bit more protection to the paint. A few other services were done on the customers car, per their request. Afterwards, outside the GTR was looking amazing. One Wash & Wax in nearly 4 years…vehicle still looked like I had detailed it the week prior.
